Teversal travelled to Eagle Valley to face Arnold Town for the final away game of the season and possible the last League encounter for a while as Arnold have elected to move to the Notts Senior League for the 2025/26 season as Borrowash Victoria make the move in the opposite direction back into the Abacus Lighting Central Midlands League, Black Dragon Premier Division South.
Games between Arnold and Teversal over the last few years have gone the way of the away side, and Arnold earlier in the season kept that going emphatically with a well deserved 5-0 win at the Tomlin Personnel Park. So Teversal, arrived hoping to keep the trend going and keep their survival hopes alive, which they dually delivered to the delight of the travelling support.
The visitors made the perfect start when on 2 minutes they took an early lead when Kurt Bamford picked up a loose ball in midfield before holding off the challenge from Campbell to play an incisive pass between the two centre halves to release Ty Macaskill to calmly pass the ball beyond the advancing Arnold Keeper Rigley to give Tevie the perfect start.
Teversal settled to control the game and looking for further opportunities to extend their lead, with Arnold setting two good banks of four limiting the openings the visitors desired to a minimum. Arnold had a threat of their own on the break, especially with the pace of Hallam and Stevenson. In fact it was the two combined on the half hour mark when Stevenson cross-field ball was superbly controlled by Hallam before moving onto his right foot to unleash a fierce strike from 18 yards that Jablonski saved low down to his right.
As the half went on, it became more of an even contest within a midfield battle, with neither side creating any chances of note. That was until half time was approaching when Macaskill and Burton had efforts blocked by the Eagles backline, then Baines delivered a free kick that Macaskill hit spectacularly on the volley across goal and marginally wide of the far post, with the score remaining 1-0 to Teversal at the break.
The second half started like the first for Tevie, but without the early goal, despite their best efforts when Burton released Parfitt to draw his effort across goal but also marginally wide of the far post with Rigley well beaten. Macaskill followed it with another effort but was denied by a telling block by Harrold that looped out for a corner, which Bamford delivered to near post where Taylor was denied by Rigley.
On 52 minutes it was 2-0 to Tevie when another well worked move was finished of when Parfitt picked out Macaskill’s timely run to finish with aplomb to put a truer reflection on the game. But credit to Arnold who pulled a back on 60 minutes to make it 2-1 when a sustained attack saw Campbell have a great strike from 20 yards which Jablonski made a superb save, but Hubbard who had just come on reacted the quickest to fire home the loose ball. Teversal response was to go back on the attack with Macaskill effort smashing against the bar, with Parfitt header then denied by a stunning save by Rigley.
Teversal showed some of their newly formed belief and continued to go forward to be rewarded on 71 minutes and made it 3-1 to in spectacular style when Rigley’s clearance from just outside his 18 yard box drop to Hadley, some 8 yards in his own half, to launch the ball back over the Keeper’s head and into the net for a superb goal. Teversal had regained control of the game and Josh Parfitt, must have started to think it’s not his day when again he steadied himself to fire an effort past Rigley to hit the face of the far post.
With 10 minutes to go Macaskill smart turn, opened up another opportunity for his hat trick, but Rigley was quick off his line to make an excellent save. Three minutes later Macaskill again was involved when the score moved over to 1-4 with arguably the best goal of the game with an excellent passing move saw Macaskill with time out on the left to cut in before picking out Parfitts timely run to tab home from 4 yards out.
In the dying minutes Gregory was found by Burton to fire a near post effort that saw Rigley produce another excellent save that ensured that Teversal would have to settle for a 1-4 victory in their quest for survival, something that is out of their hands, but there efforts have to be admired with them only having lost 2 in 10 games and that was against the current top two. So they will hope to carry that form in the last two games of the season.
