Teversal 4-0 Rossington Main Reserves

Kev Newton10 Nov - 10:01

“Workmanlike Tevie, Get the Points”

Both sides came into the game looking for a change of fortunes after being on a losing run in league games, but the host was hoping to replicate their previous weeks cup win the Notts FA Trophy, so hoping to return to that early season form.

The game started brightly for the Tevie boys, with Bamford, Ferreday and Hardy running the show from midfield. The reward for that early dominance arrived in the 5th minute when Hardy's superbly weighted ball allowed Parfitt to go one on one with Hopson, with prolific striker holding off the defender to fire across Wallace in the Rossington goal who was beaten by the bounce just in front of him with the ball nestling in the bottom corner of the far post to make it 1-0.

Rossington Main Reserves wasn’t unsettled by this and continued to make a positive contribution to an entertaining encounter, but they never seriously threatened the Tevie goal and Teversal maintained control of the game.

Midway through the half it was Bamford who became the provider with a free kick found Parfitt’s timely run to fire goalwards from the corner of the six-yard box with the visitors Keeper Wallace happy to see ball the smash against his chest with Parfitt unable to head the rebound on target. Bamford was again the architect with another delivery, this time from a corner, but the visitors held firm before clearing their lines after numerous scrambled efforts were blocked and not cleared.

Has the half time whistle blow, the game left you to wonder how the second half would unveil, would Rossington punish the home side for not taking full advantage of their dominance, or would the home side continue controlling the possession, and may be turn it goals and take the pressure off.

It turned out to be the later, but the visitors defended well, but Parfitt and others were getting the service, and you felt it was a matter of time
before the lead would be increased. A good example came on 53 minutes when Parfitt got the better of things with Boot before curling effort over the Keeper to rattle the bar. The substitutions started and Macaskill came on for Pinnick and the subs first adventure forward saw a rash challenge from Boot, but the Ref judged it a fair challenge and wavered play on.

On 64 minutes it was finally 2-0 to the Tevie Boys, however the goal was of comical proportion with Macaskill cutting from the left to fire effort that Wallace saved well, but the loose ball bounced for Parfitt to head against the bar again, the ball then dropped to Macaskill who sliced effort that dropped to Parfitt to finish to fire home. Somewhere in all of that the Rossington Keeper found something to be unhappy with, something he felt strong enough to protest to strongly about in the face of the Referee, with the official confidently showing the red card.
Has occasionally happens in this circumstance, the numerically disadvantaged side managed to get into the game more and actually created more goalscoring opportunities, without putting Winfield in the Teversal goal under any real threat.

The Teversal engine room of Ferreday, Hardy and Bamford combined with the later finding Macaskill with time and space to attack the visitors back line before picking out Parfitt to complete his hat trick on 86 minutes and took away any hope of a comeback for the visitors.
Kurt Bamford had been instrumental in the middle of the park, so when he worked a short corner routine with Dillon Gregory to fire a goal bound effort that took the slightest of deflection before beating the stand in Keeper to make it 4-0 with 2 minutes to play.

The 4-0 scoreline was a fair outcome of the game and the home side will be happy scoring four for the second weekend running and delighted with the clean sheet that they hope is the resetting of the foundations to build on again moving forward. They will hopefully, be wanting to take this into Tuesday game, and progress into the next round of the Floodlit Cup, but Rossington Main reserves will clearly be hoping to smash those plans and progress themselves.
