Teversal go down fighting at Glasshoughton

Teversal made the lengthy journey to Castleford with their youngest starting line up of the season but the mood in the dressing room before the game was definitely more positive than of late. Lots of early possession for Glasshoughton as the new look Teversal team took time to settle into their new roles the first opportunity in the 5th minute via a free kick into the Tevie box which Adam Wash headed high and wide. Teversal’s first real foray forward in the 11th minute Charlie Smith switching play over to the left, Jak Lightly touched onto Lee Naughton who cut across the Glasshoughton box but his goalward effort was well blocked. But a minute later Tevie took the lead Naughton had time and space just inside the Glasshoughton half he played a lovely ball inside the defender for Cam Pinnick to run onto and the Tevie top scorer didn’t disappoint as he finished superbly for 0-1 to Teversal.
Glasshoughton responded and the lively Dylan Drovi received the ball down the right before skipping away from Lightly he drifted across the edge of the area but shot wide of the post while under pressure from Jack Hutchinson. Teversal’s lead didn’t last too long as in the 19th minute again Drovi got free down the right and he showed great composure to cut his cross back to find Lewis Stephens who connected well to sweep the ball past Michael Ball and bring the score level at 1-1.
Teversal didn’t let the setback knock them back as their work rate kept at a high level and they defended in a well organised manner whilst trying to get forward given the opportunity. Glasshoughton’s next real chance came in the 41st minute with Teversal pushing forward a clearance caught the Tevie defence with a high line and Stephens broke forward, he attempted a shot early which Ball pushed wide of the post as he narrowed the angle and out for a corner. From the corner Walsh rose at the far post but saw his header come back off the post and Tevie did well to block the follow up shot and out to safety. In the final minutes of the half Teversal had a chance Naughton again playing in Pinnick this time however the forward put his shot wide.
Half Time: Glasshoughton Welfare 1-1 Teversal
Glasshoughton came out strong after the break, Drovi again down there he pulled the ball back to James Cusworth who had a bit of fortune with his first effort as it broke back to him but his second shot was just over the cross bar. This was quickly followed by Ball saving from Cusworth and the follow up effort could only find the side netting. Elliott Couldwell picked up his 20th booking of the season in the 50th minute (seems like it!). A fantastic save from Ball in the 52nd minute as a driven cross came in from the left Brad Hall could only deflect it goalwards and Ball somehow reacted and got not only his hand to it but pushed it over the bar.
Teversal had been under the pump but they continued to defend with composure and great work rate. From a throw in Cam Pinnick spun well but his shot just sailed over the bar as Teversal showed they were still in the game. Teversal replaced Naughton with Kurtis Bamford in the 59th minute. Three minutes later Bamford played Lightly in down the left the energetic wing back brought a good save out of Riches. Bamford then had a free kick from 30 yards out which Riches held well just under the bar. Ball was brave under the high ball in the 68th minute as he did just enough to put Aaron Gray off as he headed wide.
Teversal seemed to have managed settled into the second half but suffered a massive blow in the 76th minute as Glasshoughton attacked down there left they had the chance to clear the ball didn’t quite take it and Jordan Chippendale picked it up before standing the cross up to the far post where Cusworth rose to head past Ball and 2-1 Glasshoughton. Teversal tried to respond Bamford with a snap shot from 25 yards out which stung Riches finger tips but he held on well. Teversal made their second change in the 82nd minute as Chris Heathcote replaced Tom Widdowson. Heathcote Put Pinnick in down the right his low cross was met by Couldwell but under pressure he shot wide of the post. In a desperate last few minutes Teversal tried to find the equaliser but despite putting Glasshoughton under the cosh it wasn’t to be, A great shift put in by the young Tevie lads but all three points to the Welfare.
Final Score: Glasshoughton Welfare 2-1 Teversal
