Teversal welcomed three midweek signings into the squad along with last year's Reserve captain Gary Atkins. The shape changed from the diamond employed the previous week to a 4-2-3-1 system with new new boys George Simpson and Tom Widdowson both starting.
Shirebrook started the game quickly within the first minute Turner shooting over the bar after a Teversal mistake, but Teversal responded Tom Batterham having a half chance after good build up play involving Batterham, Simpson and James Summers but failed to test the keeper. Ben Agbakosi had a shot from 20 yards out in the 4th minute which was easily saved by Ball but again the chance was created by good build up play. Four minutes later Allcock dragged a shot wide for Shirebrook from distance. Turner picked up a yellow in the 9th minute for an obvious dive in the Teversal area.
The first fifteen minutes were fairly even but for the next fifteen Shirebrook piled on some pressure. In the 16th minute from a free-kick they hit the post from a backward header this then led to a spell of corners, from one Ryan Oridge headed narrowly wide. Three minutes later Charlie Smith headed off the line from a Manlove header. Despite some desperate defending Teversal held out and gradually gained a foothold in the game once again. Agbakosi shot from just outside the box after an interchange with Summers but was easily saved by Ball.
Shirebrook took the lead in the 35th minute following a corner which was initially cleared past the far post and with Teversal appealing for the ball out of play it was played back over for Joe Harris to head in from close range and 0-1 Shirebrook - the old adage play to the whistle comes to mind. Two minutes later Teversal had a great chance to equalise with Shirebrook dithering at the back Batterham robbed the defender played Agbakosi in on the left but with two players free in the centre Agbakosi took the wrong option and shot wide across the keeper. Jamie Hudson switched play with a lovely ball left to right in the 40th minute setting Tom Widdowson away, Widdowson cut back across the area but again could only shoot wide. With time running out in the half Shirebrook made it 0-2 when Teversal lost the ball Manlove broke through two challenges before playing in Josh Turner who outpaced Shorthose before slipping the ball past Pryce.
Half Time Teversal 0-2 Shirebrook Town
No changes for either side at half time. The first 20 minutes of the second half saw Teversal press better and both teams fought to gain the upper hand but neither creating any real chances. Agbakosi was replaced by another new signing Kieran Grant after feeling a tight thigh in the 55th minute. First real chance of the second half fell to Shirebrook and Louis Pryce pulled off a good save from Turner in the 64th minute, two minutes later Greg Smith failed to see the ball out and was robbed a quick pass inside found Manlove but Pryce again pulled off a good save.
Two changes in the 72nd minute as Aidan Oridge replaced Turner for Shirebrook and for Teversal youngster Brandon Keeling made his debut replacing the tiring Atkins. Aidan Oridge shot high over the Teversal bar in the 79th minute. With Teversal tiring Shirebrook made it 0-3 in the 80th minute following a neat through ball Craig Purcell broke through and slipped the ball past Pryce. Teversal made there final change as another young debutant Sam Buckton replaced Summers before the restart. Despite a lot of effort and with tiring legs Teversal couldn't fashion anything of mote and the game ended with Shirebrook deserved victors.
Final Score Teversal 0-3 Shirebrook Town
Much improved from last week, lots of pluses in particular the new signings and to say it's the first game as a unit we played some good football at times.
