Weaver treble sees the Tevvie Boys home.

With the resignation of Calverton from the Central Midlands league i have reinstated the report as a friendly game as it will be removed from CML records and we would lose it from the website.

Teversal were hopeful of starting the season on a sound footing after last seasons poor finish.

They had a 16 man squad available to them and went with,Joseph Darby,Ben Griffiths,Joe Toon,Craig Newton (c),Pavinder Singh,Harvey Lane,Tom Bates,Oscar Govan-Greenacre,Luke Barson,Ashley Wilson,Lewis Weaver.

Subs: Kurtis Clegg,Ryan Baldwin,Paddy Parkes,Jamie Walters,Joshua Radford.

The game had hardly got into any rhythm and Tevvie found themselves behind after only 7 minutes, Dane Bennett given a little too much time on the edge of the box and he found the far corner across the despairing dive of Joseph Darby.

Things got worse for Teversal as Luke Barson was caught in a challenge in front of the dugout which the management team were furious about as not only did we need an ambulance but Calverton were awarded the free kick.

After a 35 minute delay we got the game back under way Joshua Radford replacing the injured Luke Barson.

And Teversals response was immediate as on 15 minutes Craig Newton took a quick free kick which caught Calverton asleep down the right side and Lewis Weaver calmly lobbed the keeper to level things.

Teversal found themselves getting a foothold in the game and on 28 minutes Craig Newton again fed Lewis Weaver nicely this time down the left side and again he finished coolly to turn the game on its head.

Another Craig Newton free kick found the head of Joshua Radford but Jack Mitford in the Calverton goal was fortunate it was directed straight at him.

So with no real chances at either end we saw out the half to go in 2-1 up at the break.

The clock reads 4-35 and were just about to start the 2nd half and Calverton are quick out of the blocks and Teversal have to put some bodies on the line to repel the threat.

A great ball from Oscar Govan-Greenacre sent Tom Bates hurtling down the right touchline but he over hit the cross as Lewis Weaver was doing his best to meet it at the far post.

Calverton were making a real go of it and on 55 minutes they snuck in down their right and Joseph Darby made an excellent save going full length to push the shot away and was up quickly to tip over the follow up.

While at the other end another Teversal free kick caused problems for Calverton as Joshua Radford got in front of the defender but his effort came back off of the post.

Then Teversal found themselves with a chance to give themselves some daylight as Craig Newton released Lewis Weaver who raced through against the Calverton keeper ,Lewis went down under the challenge and after a slight pause the referee decided it was a spot kick ( maybe a bit harsh but who cares ? ).

Lewis Weaver took the responsibility and found the top left corner giving the keeper no chance and an opening day hat trick for his collection, with that Teversal made their 2nd change as Joe Toon made way for Kurtis Clegg, so a 2 goal cushion with 25 to play.

On 73 minutes the Calverton defender Elliot Griffiths bought Joshua Radford down from behind in a clumsy challenge but in a bit of afters as they squared up the Calverton player was deemed by the ref to have put his head into Josh`s ,verdict yellow for Josh, red for Elliot,Teversal made their final change with Ben Griffiths departing and Jamie Walters coming on .

Kurtis Clegg moving over to right back and Tom Bates taking the left back slot.

Calverton to a man never threw in the towel and as Teversal did look a bit leggy they won a spot kick in the 78th minute under a challenge by Pavinder Singh, but the spot kick was blasted hopelessly wide and over onto the trail behind the goal.( a let off ?).

One last chance fell to Calverton on 88 but again Joseph Darby was equal to the strike with another excellent stop.

So at 5-20 the ref says we can all go home and a satisfying result on the opening day lots of good performances a hat trick and a couple of great saves at key times giving us the platform for a good all round team performance.

The bar has been set.
