Teversal lose first home game to potential title contenders

The first home game of the season saw the Tevie youth bolstered with an experienced spine against a Rowsley 86 team that beat South Normanton Athletic 5-0 at the weekend.

Rowsley had the first effort on goal in the 6th minute Gilbride with the early shot which didn't trouble Richard Parker in the Tevie goal. Rowsley had 80% of the possession in the first 15 minutes without creating a real goalscoring opportunity as Tevie defended well led by the impressive Ethan Little. Indeed Teversal took the lead in the 18th minute as they broke down the right Keeling delivered the cross which Rowsley failed to defend and Jack Bradley drifted in to finish with a half volley high into the roof of the net for 1-0 Teversal.

Craig Newton picked up a booking in the 25th minute for a late tackle. Teversal had looked fairly comfortable until a minute later when Parker could only parry a shot from the edge off the box only for Stubley to pounce and tap home for 1-1. Tevie tried to respond Newton found Keeling who in turn picked out Harry Topliss but his effort lacked strength and Rhodes saved easily. Rowsley upped the pressure and Stubley found his back to goal just outside the box he turned the defence before producing a sublime left footed finish in the top corner to make the score 1-2 Rowsley.

Rowsley were now right up to speed Parker pulled off a great save from Baker in the 33rd minute. Roome picked up a yellow for a late tackle on Pottage-Coleman a minute later. Rowsley came very close in the 42nd minute when Evans found Gilbride down the left he turned inside but could only smash the ball into the side netting. They did however make the score 1-3 two minutes later Stubley once again the tormentor as he picked the ball up down there right before turning, his cross found Hiley who produced a neat finish into the bottom corner. Just before half time Pottage-Coleman was given a yellow for a two footed challenge.

Half Time Teversal Reserves 1-3 Rowsley 86

Rowsley came out all guns blazing straight on the re start Stubley forcing a corner as Sam Buckton bundled the ball out. Parker tried to play out from his area only to be robbed but made amends diverting Hiley's shot out for another corner, this time the ball was cut back to the edge of the box and Parker saved well from Kay's shot. Teversal tried to respond Josh Brentnall played a great cross field ball from left to right finding Keeling who's cross was bundled behind.

Teversal made there first change in the 54th minute George Hodgson replacing captain Jamie Hudson. Despite Rowsley having the majority of the play Teversal still had the odd foray forward, Keeling cut across the box with good feet but his left foot shot was blocked. Rowsley ramped it up again and came very close in the 60th minute as they broke down the left, Gilbride cut back inside only to see his shot come back off the post. Josh Brentnall picked up a yellow for a lunging tackle in the 62nd minute. Two minutes later Tevie made there second change as Cameron Pinnick replaced Pottage-Coleman.

Teversal had a good chance in the 70th minute when good work by Brentnall played in Bradley who could only shoot wide of the post. Both teams made changes Pat Bailey replaced Brentnall and Rowsley brought on Fisher and Gregory. Parker then made two great saves both from players bursting through as Rowsley tried to increase there lead. But it wasn't until the 89th minute that Rowsley made it 1-4 when once again the nemesis of Pete Stubley played in Fisher who battled hard for the ball before finishing well into the bottom corner.

Final Score Teversal Reserves 1-4 Rowsley 86

Some good performances tonight from the young Tevie players however in the end Rowsley experience proved too much but the lads will learn and improve with every game.
