Eastwood Town Reserves 3 – 2 Teversal Reserves

Earlier in the season a close evenly matched game saw Eastwood claim the points and today we saw the same outcome. The first half was a fairly dismissal affair with very little to remember. Teversal had to make a substitution on twelve minutes and on sixteen minutes were close to making the second substitution when Teversal left back collided with his own keeper when trying to cut out a cross which the Eastwood number 9 headed in a goal. The goal was disallowed for off side which was fortunate for Teversal but the unfortunate side was the keeper carried the injury throughout the game as a result of the collision.
Both teams worked hard to try to fashion a goal but very few attempts were made and it was forty one minutes before Teversal had a shot in anger when Ryan Baldwin let fly from twenty yards to bring out a good save from the Eastwood keeper high to the keeper left post.
Eastwood had more possession of the ball in the first half and looked the most likely to score and they did on the forty first minute with a defensive error when a through ball, the defence stopped and claimed off side, was slotted down the right side for Eastwood’s number 7 to be one on one with the keeper, he carried the ball 10 yards, kept his cool and slotted the ball past a helpless keeper.
I don’t know what happened during the half time interval but was it the same set of players entering the field as left it?
There was much more urgency in the game and what looked to be a desire to win.
It took forty minutes in the first half to see a real Teversal chance of scoring but they had four chances in the first ten minutes of the second half. The first on forty seven when a long ball from centre half Matt West found Max Curzon running past the back four into the penalty area, the ball had a little too much pace on it and it forced the striker towards the goal line before he caught it up, but he managed to chip the ball from a tight angle towards goal but it went over the bar. The second chance fell to Simba Ganyiwa on fifty two minutes a good shot which went wide. The third chance fell to the same player on fifty six minutes when a loose pass put the ball in no man’s land, the keeper advancing from his goal, a defender coming across the pitch and Simba Ganyiwa running towards goal. Simba got there first but his toe poke took the ball a couple of yards wide off the post. The forth was a corner which came to nothing.
The next six minutes saw the game explode into life. Teversal finally got the equalising goal on seventy four minutes when a corner kick was headed towards goal by Ryan Baldwin, the keeper saved, the ball parried down to were Max Curzon was standing to tucked the ball into the net.
It was only three minutes before Eastwood regained the lead with a second goal for their number 7. Teversal responded a minute later with their second goal when a back pass was under hit, Max Curzon intercepted the ball, went round the keeper, and slotted home.
But the third defensive mistake of the game would see Teversal lose the game when Jordon Schofield missed timed tackle in the penalty area gave Eastwood a penalty. Up steps Eastwood number 7 for his hat trick on eighty minutes.
I think it fair to say the next ten minutes saw Teversal throw the preverbal kitchen sink at Eastwood but the sustained pressure did not bring an equaliser.
