Thackley v Hemsworth Miners Welfare – Match Preview.

NCEL Premier Division – Tuesday 6th October 2020 - Kick off 7.45pm.

Thackley will be looking to bounce back on Tuesday night from Saturday’s defeat against Maltby, when they entertain Hemsworth Miners Welfare to the Thank You Key Workers Stadium. The Wells are always a very competitive side and over the four season’s they have been in the Premier Division, Thackley have just two wins against them. One of those being last season in a seven goal thriller at Dennyfield. Scorers for Thackley on that day were Dan Broadbent, Albert Ibrahami (2) and Jack Normanton, for Wells Rikki Paylor, Nash Connolly and Steven Jeff. Hemsworth were one of the few teams Thackley played twice last season, they shared five goals in the game at Wakefield Road, the home side coming out on top with a last minute Sean Ripley goal.

Hemsworth have played twice in the National competitions this season, they lost in the opening round of the FA Cup to Hebburn Town but triumphed over Armthorpe in the FA Vase, they play Nostell MW on Saturday in the next round. They are currently unbeaten in the league winning at home against both Staveley and Knaresborough. Someone for the Thackley defence to be aware of is striker Layton Swaine, he has scored in their last three games.

It has not been the start to the league campaign Thackley would have wished for, just one point from three games, two of those at home. Taking the lead in their last two, they have put in very creditable performances in the opening half. However, failing to come out for the second forty five minutes has cost them dearly. Thackley can play some good stuff at times and can score goals as demonstrated when they beat Durham in the opening round of the FA Vase. They will need to show that sort of form if they want to get anything from Tuesday night’s game. A victory would build confidence for their FA Vase game against Harrogate Railway on Saturday.
