Thackley face the rather novel experience of being at home on Saturday after more than a month away from Dennyfield, when they entertain Maltby Main. (This is of course all dependant on the weather, the Dennyfield surface is still very wet, we really do need the rain to stay away for the next couple of days). The Miners are somewhat of a ‘bogie’ team for Thackley, you have to go back to September 2016 to find the last time that they beat their South Yorkshire rivals at Dennyfield. However, Thackley did return from Muglet Lane in November with a rare victory and all three points in a closely fought game. Jack Boyle gave Thackley a first half lead, Joe Austin equalised for the home sided but Simon Poole scored what turned out to be the winner with his first touch in the game, after coming off of the bench.
Maltby are currently in seventh spot in the table (43 points from 28 games) and still will have aspirations of grabbing one of the three promotion places. They have lost just once in their last nine games (3-1 at home to Eccleshill United). Last Saturday they beat Athersley one nil and in midweek drew away at Mansfield.
Thackley have hit a bit of a buffer, losing their last three games with rather under par performances. Their last victory was that game at Dennyfield on 8th February when they beat Hemsworth in a seven goal thriller. Since then, Manager Pat McGuire has rung the changes to try to find that early February form. Hopefully, being on home territory, Thackley will find a performance that will give them the double over Maltby.
