9 Men Mote 4s struggle to 4 bonus points

Team: J.Crowhurst, A.Bone (WK), J.Jeary, L.Bone (C), J.Waterson, P.Jeary, G.Bone, T.Waterson, D.Damen

Result: Loss

Summary: Once again struggling to put out 4 sides, The Mote 4s having 9 players including 3 dads to ensure there wasn’t a loss of points for the second time this season. Having lost the toss we were asked to bowl as we would have done winning the toss anyway looking to gain as many bonus points as possible. James Jeary had the honour of opening the bowling with Lewis Bone this week and got off to a good start in the first 10 to 15 overs however it was clear to see that the gaps in the field were going to put us at a disadvantage. Lewis had the ball moving away early on and found the edge numerous times where a slip would normally be found. Eventually we removed an opener and saw our way into the game as James Waterson and David Damen joined Lewis Bone as all three took 2 wickets apiece gaining 6 wickets a d 3 bonus points. Sherwood reached 214 and this wasn’t as much as a chase as we expected and we gave ourselves a first achievable target of one more bonus point at 125.

Our batting line up was weakened from last week’s win against Sheppey, with very few out and out batsmen. Alex Bone and Jonathan Crowhurst got us off to a good start and with 66 on the board before Alex was out for the first wicket with a good 39. James Jeary was in and out for just 1. This brought Lewis Bone to the crease with Crowhurst still looking to achieve 125. Crowhurst was then caught out on 30 and left Lewis Bone with what could be called the lower order. Lewis batted sensibly and to anyone watching probably the best shot selection and well-tempered innings in his life. Spending just shy of 2 hours at the crease and getting 43 and leaving Dave Damen and Tony Waterson needing 2 runs for the bonus points, thankfully we crossed this line and managed to get the 4th bonus point before we were 8 wickets down and the game was over. With 9 players this felt like a good result for us.

Highlights: L.Bone 2-37, D.Damen 2-60, J.Waterson 2-77 & L.Bone 43, A.Bone 39, J.Crowhurst 30
