17 Nov Thirsk Men 3 vs Airedale 2
By Patrick Hunt
Thirsk lined up with an extra man in central midfield at the expense of a forward, in anticipation of playing the first of 3 weeks against the top teams in the league. With Sam Kelly
and Ian Foxley
working well together in the centre, Thirsk enjoyed plenty of possession, using the wide players in defence and midfield effectively. Despite dominating possession, it was Airedale that took the lead with a swift break getting behind the Thirsk defence and a deft touch wrong footing Andy in goal.
Thirsk continued to play well, targeting its strikers making runs near the posts, and also driving up the right to try to find a striker in D, but in all cases failing find our players withe the final pass and not therefore creating clear chances. Once again against the run of play, Airedale scored just before half time.
The second half followed a similar pattern with good possession for Thirsk but few clear chances while Airedale took most of their chances clinically. Fred Hunt
and Owen Williams
made some good runs out of defence, Jeremy Barker
and Arthur Webster- Jones provided energy in wide midfield, and the young attack of Jack Foxley
, Joe Tart
and Connor Wilkinson
continued to work hard against a strong defence.
Man of the match Sam Kelly
, calm and controlled in central midfield.
