26 Jan Thirsk Men 3 v Ben Rhydding 6
By Patrick Hunt
Thirsk's squad was a balance of youth and experience, against a similar team from Ben Rhydding. Throughout the game, Thirsk were able to exploit the space deep and wide, for Jeremy Barker
in particular to exploit. A great feature of this match was the quick interplay between the attacking youngsters, particularly Owen Reed
, Connor Wilkinson
, Joe Tart
, Jack Foxley
and Tom Crack
, but despite some good chances and a series of short corners, Thirsk could not quite manage to to force the ball past the excellent opposition keeper. Approaching half time, Ollie Dale
finally managed to lift a loose ball over the prone keeper during another goalmouth scramble, atoning for a previous miss.
The second half started similar to the first half, but Ben Rhydding began to test the Thirsk defence playing effectively on the break, but some scrambling from the back line and Sam Ross Russell
in goal maintained the 1 goal advantage until late in the game, when Ian Foxley
sealed the win with a clean strike from the edge of the D.
Man of the match for great work rate and positional play: Owen Reed
