Match: Thirsk & Malton 3 v Leeds Adel 5
Thirsk 3s were certainly not at their best for the home game against Leeds Adel. The game was marked throughout by a number of chances that we were not able to convert; passing that didn’t always find the man; loss of the ball unnecessarily; and, unforced errors. It took Thirsk about 20 minutes of the first half to settle into any rhythm but then we were caught in defence and a (somewhat dubious) penalty corner resulted in Leeds taking a lead just before half time. We came out of the break and started in a better fashion. After some 15 minutes our luck finally came in and after an excellent chase by George to keep the ball in, it found Joseph who fed it to Louie; his shot was fired goal-wards and Owen deflected in past the defeated Adel keeper. 1-1 and we were back in the game.
We couldn’t, however, turn it into a lead with more chances being denied no matter what we tried and none of our short corners coming to anything. So it stayed until the 60th minute when at the other end Leeds broke through at the top of the D. Although Mason cleared the initial loose ball it went only as far as an Adel player who quickly came into the D and shot. Mason got a foot to it but not enough and it was turned into the goal. 1-2 with less than 10 to play. As a result, we pressed even harder and this led to an attack from Leeds that we couldn’t hold and they stole a 3rd goal. Thirsk battled to the end and with only a few minutes left were facing an impossible task. We were able to secure a consolation last minute goal from a well-executed Penalty corner struck beautifully by Liam. Final score Thirsk 2 – 3 Leeds Adel.
