2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, both personally and professionally. In addition recreational activity was stifled for much of the year so I'd like to thank the committee and the members, both adults and juniors, who have grasped the opportunity to train and play cricket over the last few months.
It has been a joy to see people back playing cricket at Thorley even under the restrictions that were enforced on us all. As ever I am so proud of our adult members who support the club and support the young blood coming though the club. We have seen some milestones reached even in the strange world of COVID 19 cricket. Many of our juniors came back taller, faster and better, some have played league cricket for the first time, some have got their first 50s batting, be it on a Saturday or a Sunday, this is a fabulous achievement.
As ever our coaches and captains have stepped up to the mark, your efforts might sometimes go unheralded but they are always appreciated.
All of us hope that 2021 can be an improvement on this year and that cricket can return back to the norm. As well as ensuring cricket has been played a small band of members have been driving forward the construction of our new clubhouse and much has been achieved over the last few months as we are now seeking tenders for the construction phase. More help will be needed over the winter as we look to seek additional funding and potentially offers of assistance from our members who have the necessary skills or contacts who can help us drive this project over the finish line. If you think you can help in any way, however small, please let me know.
Sadly there won't be an awards evening this year but please do keep in touch over the winter and if any member needs help please reach out, we aren't just a cricket club, we are a big family.
Take care and be safe.
