Thornes Juniors 3-0 Woodkirk

Thornes Juniors Under 13’s were away to Woodkirk in the Garforth League Division 6 and came away with their first win of the season, winning 3-0.

Marcel Solek and George Crook were the standout players however the whole team were magnificent.

It didn’t take Thornes long to gain the upper hand as they were on top from the kick off as Warp Muket almost scored following a through ball from Merafe Matjita.

Thornes continued to press and were getting into great positions down the right through George Crook and it was George’s great run down the right that led to the opener. George went to cross the ball but it was cut out by a Woodkirk defender but fell to Marcel Solek 25 yards out who controlled the ball and then hit it over the keeper to put Thornes 1 up.

Thornes continued to attack with Lennie Dunford at the heart of most things with Kian Drury mixing it up in midfield. Again, it was George who continued to impress in his new role who again ran down the wing and crossed for Marcel who again dropped a shoulder to beat the defender and smashed the ball past the keeper.

Dale Taylor-Burnley and Kassey Dibbassey along with Rohan Damle and Olivia Williams stood firm at the back and didn’t allow a shot on goal for most of the half. Halfway through Emily Batt, Tafara Tigere, Lewis Poulson and Elliott Wray all subbed on and were superb.

Woodkirk had one shot on goal from a free kick but Harley Trapps was a match to it and pushed it wide.

In the second half Thornes continued to play some good football with George, Warp and Lewis Poulson all going close on numerous occasions.

It took Thornes 30 minutes to finally put the game to bed and it was probably the best move of the game. Elliott Wray put in a strong tackle on halfway and passed the ball down the wing to Warp Muket who beat his man and put in a delightful cross which was asking to be hit and it was as Lewis Poulson met it on the volley and gave the keeper no chance.

Thornes finished on the attack with Warp Muket, who deserved a goal striking the bar following a vicious shot that beat the keeper all ends up.
