Saturday saw Thorney have their first run out of pre-season against a strong Oundle development side with a scattering of first team players. Both sides played some exciting attractive running rugby with Oundle out scoring Thorney 9 tries to 6 over the 4 twenty minute periods with both teams winning two periods each( we will call it a draw!).

This was a great exercise for the lads with all 24 players getting at least 40 minutes on the pitch. We looked extremely comfortable with the ball in hand managing to string multiple phases together and we were dominant in the scrum. Work-on going forward will be our defensive line speed but we still have 4 weeks till the first league game so we are in good shape.

Everyone put in a good shift but special mention must go to Micheal Croucher playing at fullback and winger who had to come off injured in the final twenty after having a strong defensive game and always looking threatening with the ball hand. On debut John Williams and Sam Williams (not related) had strong games with Sam scoring twice and John playing all four periods putting in hard work at the break down and impressing with the ball in hand.

Next week we play Huntingdon at home and hope to improve on what we achieved on Saturday.
