Champagne Moments

On a sunny Saturday afternoon East Leake II came to Thrumpton to play a South Notts Village League game. The captains went out to the square to toss the coin. On what was a peach of a wicket East Leake won the toss and elected to bat. It was not a difficult decision to make.

The afternoon went on with East Leake II scoring a club record 194 runs in 45 overs. In the Village Hall at tea celebrations were boisterous with the away team finishing tea early to return to the field to have a team photograph with the score on the board.

After tea Thrumpton batted and won by 10 wickets with 4 overs to spare and both batsmen never giving a chance. Ray Smithson scored a ton with Bill Litchfield in his high eighties.

Trouble was Bill thought the scorer got the players mixed up and it was him that reached three figures.
