Thrumpton 2nds travelled to top of the table Woodborough in need of a much needed win.

Captain Nick Proverbs returned to the team and with a very strong team on paper looked to kick start the team into a late promotion push.

Nick won the toss and decided to have a bat on a small but lovely setting of a ground.

Nick and James Ayland opened the innings and had the task of seeing off the opening bowling. Both had a few misses but the score was ticking on nicely and they saw off the dangerous Sam Adams.

This brought Paul Wilson onto bowl though and found the break through with a good delivery to bowl Nick (15) 35 -1

Shiraz Kayani came to the crease and survived a close LBW decision and from there he never looked back.
Shiraz and James ticked the score on nicely and it looked like we would get a big score but James was then caught out for 22 (65-2)

Enter Kamran Rasheed on the back of a fantastic innings last week and both he and Shiraz carried on the good work. Kammy was then trapped LBW (17) to leave Thrumpton on 97-3. Skipper Nick felt quite comfortable with this as we still had more than 20 overs to go.

Unfortunatley Thrumpton 2nds have a habit of having a bit of a collaspe and this week was no exception and so from 97-3 they went to 127-7 with Paul Wilson claiming 5 wickets.

Luckily for Thrumpton they still had Shiraz Kayani in who decided to up the ante and he found boundaries easy to come by, he was helped with the new found all rounder Ben Chadwick and they put on 63 (Ben 15)
Shiraz was batting superbly and when it came to the last over he was told he needed 14 for 100.
Some batsmen would find this difficult but Shiraz hit a 4,6,4 to bring up a great innings. Shiraz finished on 104*

Thrumpton finished on 209-9 best score of the season.

After teas Thrumpton felt confident enough to defend the lead but Woodborough decided to go from the off and with some inaccurate bowling to start with built up a nice lead.

Matt Piggott though used his experience to bounce the ball a bit more and had the big hitting Ryan Trussler caught by the skipper who actually **** himself before catching it.

Thrumpton now regained focus and Matt got the other opener and Woodborough were 56-2. First bowling change and Kamran Rasheed got instant reward and now Woodborough were 56-3.
Kammy then got the dangerous Paul Wilson and now the score was 73-4.
Over confidence then crept in and Thrumpton boys took the foot off the gas,

Ben Chadwick out to prove a point to the skipper came onto bowl and the first ball whistled past the batsmen's head. Unfortunatley it went a bit wrong after that and the next 5 balls went for 17.

After a run out Thrumpton looked odds on to to take the game away with Woodborough struggling on 103-5 but Sam Adams and the skipper Phil Bennett kept the run rate going and were addding runs at ease.

Sam Charlton was unlucky to see an LBW decision turned down. After that though Woodborough just went through the gears and punished some short/wide bowling.

Thrumpton still had a chance though when Samir Ahmed got Sam Adams out and Ben Chadwick came back onto trouble Phil with his pace but Woodborough just added the runs required and got to the total with 4 overs to spare.

In what was a great game for the neutral, can't help but feel disappointed we didn't win.

Everyone must start thinking about winning and not stop until the job is done, plenty of encouragement is required.

We host Basford Old Boys on Saturday and the skipper is trying to make a last minute signing in time,
