Match report

Ticehurst lose in thrilling Christmas Cracker
Ticehurst FC 1 Ninfield 4
This week saw Ticehurst take on league leaders Ninfield. It was played on a cold afternoon at Ticehusrt despite the game being scheduled to play at Ninfield.  For Ticehurst FC this game was always going to be difficult as their top three goal scorers were either injured or suspended, this statistic did not bode well for a side that had not scored in the previous two games.
The game itself was a competitive affair that saw the first 20 minutes as a very even contest where both sides knocked the ball around well and played some attractive football. However, it was the visitors that had a slight touch of fortune when the Ninfield striker was able to get the better of the central defence and got his shot off only for Joe Gorman to get a hand on the ball. Both Ticehurst and Ninfield players looked surprised when the ball somehow span in to the corner of the net.
It did not take Ninfield long to capitalise on their lead when a corner was floated right across the goal line and was headed in to make it 2-0. For Ticehurst this was frustrating as two soft goals had put them firmly on the back foot. Yet, at half time the team had felt they were playing well but lacked some conviction in the final third of the pitch.
The second half saw Ticehurst make some excellent passages of play and keep the ball well. Yet this possession was not threatening to the well organised Ninfield defence.  Ticehurst created a few chances with Wayne Stone hitting the cross bar from a free kick that was excellently saved by the Ninfield goal keeper. It was however,  Ninfield that Scored the next goal from a splendid free kick that went over the wall and dipped down into the corner of the net. Although Ticehurst were 3-0 down they continued to press up the pitch. They were unfortunately caught on the counter attack. Jamie Smith managed to block a shot that was deflected onto the Ticehurst cross bar and the rebound landed straight to the Ninfield forward who had the easiest of jobs just to tap the ball into the net. This meant that Ticehurst were now 4-0 down.
Josh Vidler came off the bench and looked sharp, flashing one effort just past the far post.Ticehurst to their credit never gave up and showed a great team spirit and got their reward when Nicky Watkins scored a Christmas cracker from 35 yards, that was thumped into the top corner. The shot was simply unstoppable. Yet this was a little too late for Ticehurst. The game was lost 4-1 but there were positives that can be taken out of the game such as the possession and fluidity of the Ticehurst passing game until the final third.
Ticehurst have a massive Sussex Cup quarter final in their next game, let’s just hope the Christmas bells ring in Ticehurst’s  favour and Bully lays of the mince pies.
