Tilbury 0 Maldon & Tiptree 0 (Att 51) Tilbury won 8-7 on penalties
Tilbury progressed in the Ryman League Cup by winning an epic 20-goal penalty shoot-out against Maldon at Chadfields.
Jammers sub Rhys Henry was the fall guy in the end as his spot kick crashed off the angle of post and bar to send the Dockers through to an October 4th meeting with Billericay Town.
All 12 penalties had been expertly dispatched before Maldon keeper Daniel Wilks gave his side the advantage by keeping out the 13th from central defender Eli Benoit.
But parity was immediately restored when Tilbury No 1 Lee Butcher stopped the next kick from Jerry Kamanzi and the shoot-out quickly became 7-7 before Dockers left-back Connor Mead blazed his over.
Their were audible gasps of disbelief when Maldon striker Sam Newson did exactly the same with the next kick and Emiel Aiken scored the next to pave the way for Henry to finally conclude the drama.
It was an exciting climax to a tight and tense second-half in which clear-cut chances were at a premium.
It was a much better first half as the Ryman North rivals put on an end-to-end show in which Adam Mills went closest to the only goal when his excellent 28th-minute shot from an angle hit the outside of the post.
Manager Gary Henty, made two changes to his line up giving a debut to defender Billy Willis who equipped himself well and the return of Toby Aromolaran, who saw his last minute effort fly over the top.
Tilbury return to Chadfields on Saturday when they welcome Soham Town Rangers in the league.
