Timperley U12 v Mellor U12 9-17

A tough introduction to the season for some of our new players, facing key rivals Mellor, but the game was played in good spirits. Mellor were quick off the mark, breaking quickly through the middle to score, followed by some easy passing round the crease to score again. They were faster on the loose balls and again beat our defence to add a third and it could have been one-way until our boys made a quick counter with Bruce Terry passing to George Rommel who twisted through defence to beat the keeper. Lukie Brennan followed this using his pace to skin the Mellor defence and score. Q1 2-3

Lucca Read made a great save but his clearance was picked up by Mellor who reacted quickly to score. They kept the pressure on Timperley's inexperienced defence to add another. Tom Hayton was unlucky with a shot rebounding off the post, and this was our best chance of the quarter. Mellor demonstrated great pace on the attack and were more organised when in possession enabling simpler passing which led to 4 more goals. This was a very one sided quarter with 6 goals to Mellor unanswered. H1 2-9

Thanks to some good advice from the coaches at half-time, and a great team spirit, Timperley bounced back in Q3. Mellor again scored first, but with Kuba moving into midfield we were more competitive, as demonstrated by his pass to Lukie to score. Mellor split our defence twice again resulting in 2 more goals, but Timperley responded well with a Lukie assist for George to score. Tom Hayton followed this, rolling through Mellor's defence to add another. Some better organised attacking play from Timperley and Tom scored a second as Timperley bounced back. Q3 6-12

Mellor broke fastest again, scoring twice early in the final quarter, capitalising on their pace and our less organised defence. Mattie Harrison demonstrated Timperley can also break, winning the face-off and scoring a solo goal. Mellor scored again, before Lukie's shot from distance found the back of the net. Another from Mellor, but Timperley had the last word with George getting the final goal of the game. FT 9-17
Without the second quarter, the game was a good, close match and it was great to see the enthusiasm from the newer players who were keen to be involved. As I said at the start, this was a blessing by fire and we will improve with regular training, with more time played, and building on a strong core and positive team mentality. Well done to all the boys and thank you for the MoM votes which goes to Kuba this week.
