U15 Girl's v Mellor (Cup)

On Saturday a number of games were cancelled. We were keeping our fingers crossed to ensure the rain will stay away long enough, for this game to go ahead. At 08:00 am we got the call saying it's on! And what a nice morning it was, no clouds to be seen.

At the end, we had 11 players including two under 13s. Mellor were full strength with two of three subs. Our league game against them was a close game as well, like this one.

Quarter 1. We managed to pull away 3 - 0, but then allowed them to come back to finish the first quarter 3 - 2 for us.

Quarter 2. Evenly balanced quarter. No team had advantage at the end of the quarter, score for this quarter was 3 -3.

Quarter 3. Control of this quarter some great attacking the place and good defending. Just towards the end of the quarter we allow them to come back a bit. Score for this quarter 5 - 3 for us.

Quarter 4. A rollercoaster of a quarter. We first increased our lead overall. Dan Mellor came back and took the lead. Then we equalised, then they took the lead with two minutes left. Then we showed our true team spirit and equalised first then scored a winner with 45 seconds left. We did not allow our heads to go down when Mellor pulled back and went into lead. At the end, we did enough to win this game.

Final score was 15 - 14 for us and we progress to the semi-final of the JNGL Cup.

At times, when we attacked we were lethal. Some of our attacks came from fast breaks. Others came from passing the ball around and then cutting through. On occasions we were not tight in defence, but when we were tight we did not give them any opportunities. Having only one sub was a handicap but we dealt with it and everyone dug deep. Another great performance.

Special thank you goes to Matilda Wright and Charlotte Sadler from the U13s. Mellor girls were at least 1 to 2 heads taller than them, but this didn't faze them out.
