Our scheduled league game vs Cheadle was cancelled due to Cheadle being unable to field a team, so it was great to welcome Stockport to Timperley to play a friendly.
Our numbers were also impacted by half term, and we were only able to field 9 regular U15 players.
Mathilda Beresford and Suzanne Whitmarsh from our U13 Girls team stepped up to help out.
Both gave excellent, confident performances. Our thanks to them for stepping up.
Without our regular goalkeeper, Katie Tighe, Hattie McDermott volunteered to play in goal. She played exterfemely well. Confident and determined, she impressed with some great saves and more importantly at times played as a 4th player in defence. Well done Hattie!
In defence, we were very strong. Eva Bowie, Charlotte Sadler, Emily Porter and of course Mathilda Beresford matched the Stockport attack player for player. Some intelligent slides to deny the key attack players kept Stockport out. Our defence are building a real 'team within a team' presence.
Where we showed a real edge was our ability to defend higher up the field with our hard working middies and attackers.
Getting as many players behind the ball as possible, we formed a barrier in the centre of the field that Stockport found incredibly difficult to break down.
Time after time, this provided us with turnover posession. Franzi was as effective as ever on the draw and provided a great pivotal base for the attack. Carys and Matti ran tirelessly, and linked superbly to deliver inspired build up play, with clinical finishing.
Timperley dominated the midfield battle.
In attack, we saw some great performances. Holly made her debut for Timperley U15s, and looked like she had been part of the team for some time. Scoring 4 goals on her debut is a great start, and more importantly she made plenty of good passes and cuts around the fan.
Chloe demonstrated she is getting better and better, with her reliable goal scoring but also adding some very intelligent movement, cutting and passing. All esssential to develop the ability to be a threat all over the field.
Very pleasing was seeing Suzanne score a goal playing up for the U15. Always looking for space and for the pass, she wss not intimidated at all by the higher age group.
The girls showed an admirable maturity today. Fully including the U13 girls in their team was pleasing to see. Club camararderie at it's best!
They played with control and listened to the coaches.
They took the time to build play, keep posession and create intelligent team goals.
To play at this level when your oldest girls are Year 9 is worthy of note.
This team has a huge potential, and it is showing in games like today.
There will be tougher games ahead. There will be stronger opposition.
But as we develop this team, with so many talented players all over the field, Timperley U15s will be tough to beat.
Well done today girls!
