Timperley U15 Girls WINNERS at Cobham Tournament 2022!

Cobham Tournament May 2022

Our U15 Girls travelled down to the annual Cobham Tournament. A highlight of our calendar.
On Saturday we were invited to play a friendly warm up game vs Cobham Lacrosse club.
It ended up quite a competitive affair, with Timperley edging it 6-5 at full time.

Sunday was tournament day. 4 group games, with teams finishing in 1st and 2nd playing again in the final.

Game 1:
Timperley vs New Stars
A near perfect display saw Timperley dominate this game. 7-0. An amazing start.

Game 2:
Timperley vs Hawks
A tougher encounter against a well organised team. But Timperley continued their great start with a 5-2 victory. Things were looking very promising indeed!

Game 3:
Timperley vs Cobham Blue
Controlled play and ruthless finishing. 8-2.

Game 4:
Timperley vs Cobham Yellow
Someone had been studying our play and this game posed a considerable challenge for us, as Cobham threw everything at us.
Playing a 4 man defensive line, they made it very difficult for us.
We went behind in this game, but this Timperley U15 team do not know when they are beaten!
A real nail biter, with our impressive attack providing some decisive goals in quick succession! Final score: 5-4.

Timperley were 4 games with 4 wins. tallying 20 points and topping the league table.
After Game 4, we thoroughly expected a rematch vs Cobham Yellow, but a check of the scoreboard showed that New Stars had beaten everyone after their first game against us!
So it was Timperley vs New Stars in the final. And it proved to be a very different encounter!

From the very start, New Stars played high pressure lacrosse and looked a different team to the one we had played in Game 1.
2 quick goals saw Timperley 0-2 down and not really knowing what had hit them!
Timperley hit back, and hit back hard, levelling the game at 2-2 seconds before the break.
It was all to play for, and the momentum was with the Timperley U15 girls.
But New Stars came out into the 2nd half with renewed venom. But an absolute masterclass in whole team defending saw Timperley keep New Stars at bay.
Then came a goal that defined what this Timperley U15 team is all about.
Under huge pressure, Timperley continuously closed the door on the New Stars attack. An excellent check and a ground ball win saw us run the length of the field towards the New Stars goal.
A perfectly timed pass and the winning shot was fired!
3-2, with no more than a minute remaining.
The crowd went wild, but then almost immediately went quiet again through fear of what may come next!!
Timperley remained steadfast in defence with every player giving it 100%. The hooter sounded and Timperley were Cobham Champions 2022!

This was truly a team victory.
The share of the goals in each game just shows the number of excellent playersin this group. In 2 of the games SIX different goal scorers!
Threats come from all over the field in this Timperley team, - a huge problem for any opposition!
