First game of the season
By Cengiz Ilhan
Hard game to start the season.
It was always going to be a tough game against last seasons champions and so it was. We had some last minute drop offs that reduced our team to 10 players. At one point it looked like we might have to forfeit, but luckily we did not need to. We had 10 girls who gave their best against a team that had 3 subs.
First half we played up hill and this took its toll from our girls as well. The first half score was 14 - 2 for Oxton but the score did not do justice to how the girls were playing. At times we played well, passed around but were not as clinical in our finishing as Oxton were.
Second half, till the last 7 minutes the score was 4 - 3 for Oxton. Then our heads went down a bit and conceded some goals without a reply. Second half score 10 - 3 and final score 24 - 5. We did much better in the second half.
For Talia this was her first ever competitive Lacrosse game and she did very well considering the opponent and getting to grip with the rules. We also had two of our younger U15s in the team (Charlotte Christian and Henny Wright) who did very well too. Lots of energy and determination.
It was not easy for the girls but they never gave up. I think if we have the full squad and subs we will give them a much harder game on the return fixture. That is what we should focus on.
Man of the match: Henny Wright - full of energy, created chances and scored a goal (I think)
Defence: Ally Ashcroft - communicated well and supported Talia
Midfield: Ellie Racle - worked hard and created chances and scored goals
Attack: Emma Coghlan - best goal of the game
