I think we can avoid recording an official result :-) This was only a friendly and the game was abandoned at the end of the 3rd quarter due to heavy freezing rain and driving winds making the game and pitch unplayable.
It was a great effort from all of the girls (and the spectators!) to stick it out and keep playing decent lacrosse in the conditions. However, it has to be said, Moreton Hall were definitely the stronger team on the day. They were very well organised and they played with good pace and intent, always putting us under pressure when we had possession in the defensive and middle third, with a solid defence, and with a well-drilled and well-coached attack.
At the same time, Timperley didn't play their best lacrosse despite a few strong individual performances. As a team, the girls can definitely play with more pace, purpose and precision that they showed in this game.
Overall, it was a good quality game and it served as the first real test of the season, so was well worth trip. Moreton Hall won the first quarter 4-1, but the girls found their feet after that and drew the next two quarters 3-3 and 2-2 respectively. They may have closed the gap in the final quarter as they grew into the game, but instead we headed off to a warm dining hall for a welcome lunch :-).
Goals today from Jess, Sophie H (2), Henny and Ana (2).
