Topsham hold out against tough opposition.

Topsham has a blistering start with a try in the first minute from their kick-off. Topsham closed down the opposition and George Syrad scored, converted by Gwyn Parkes 7-0. Then, five minutes into the game sees a second try under the posts from Topsham’s Tom Sheppard, a superb pickup at speed, converted by Gwyn Parkes taking Topsham to 14-0.

Teignmouth come back on a counter attack and score from a rolling maul after winning their line-out close to our try line, not converted, 14-5. Tops come straight back up and score from fast ball down the backs from Tom Sheppard, not converted, 19-5. Teignmouth play catch-up again, breaking through and overcoming Topsham’s defense, converted, 19-12.

Topsham now make ground with several drives at the visitors’ line. Finally from scrum they pass the ball out wide and Tristan May scores. A lovely conversion in high wind from Gwyn Parkes takes us to 26-12. Half time.

At the restart, a concerted effort by Topsham spends 10 mins in Teignmouth’s half and a line out steal sees Zac McLellan score to put us 31-12. Topsham has again put clear space between them and the opposition well into the second half, but aren’t able to hold that space for long - the visitors make ground up to our end and score from a line out, Converted. 31-19.

Topsham put more space between the teams as a superb catch from Alex Taylor is offloaded to Tom Sheppard who scores and Gwyn Parkes converts, 38-19.

Teignmouth score as Topsham defense tackles fail to connect in this last quarter, 38-26. The visitors start to believe in a turnover, ten points behind. Charlie Goodfellow is sent off yellow card for contact with opposite jumper in the lineout and Tops are down to 13 men. Teignmouth steal a line out but Topsham intercepts, offloads to the backs and Jake Barker scores, 43-26.

Teignmouth keep the pressure on and hammer on our try line. Tops give away 3 penalties and the visitors score and convert. 43-33.

The Topsham boys held on to their win again – ending the last of many games on home turf – great memories for them all, as well as their fantastic coaches and committed supporters.
