The damp weather and neutral venue was all sent to test our resilience last weekend. After a slow start in Game 1, we quickly realised that if we allowed Exmouth ball and space, they would be able to hurt us. The adjustment to our defensive efforts was immediate and the intensity that we shut the door and turned the key was astonishing.
Outstanding tackling from the entire team, with Isaac and Frankie leading the way, coupled with direct and uncompromising running with the ball in hand from Joseph and Rico, silky and scything Attacks from Jacob and Archie, great support work from Wilf and some nice breakdown work from Luke contributed to a comprehensive team victory
Game 2 followed suit, with the team working so well together to close down a dangerous opposition and bring them down with numerous tries. We dominated every facet of the game and they had to produce outstanding rugby to finally score against us.
What was hugely impressive to see was the hard work you have all put in during training being used so effectively on the field. Exmouth are a good team and were very strong and competitive at the breakdown, but we used the techniques we have been working on to protect our ball almost without fail. Our choke tackles smothered the fight out of them and our lines of running and support work were superb.
Player of the day to Isaac for complete commitment and tackle after tackle complementing his graft around the pitch to create distress in the opposition and opportunities galore for his team mates. An awesome display.
