....but didn't we make it hard work for ourselves!!
Today saw the first game since our new coach Andy Gibbons took charge and on behalf of the players I would like to say a big thank you to the club for supporting us by appointing someone to take charge! I would also like to say welcome to Tor Andy.
Looking back since July as a group of senior players we have taken the reigns in the absence of any coach and I have to say, it was getting a bit much. I would like to say a big thank you also though to Adam Payne for giving up his time to plan and organise the quality training sessions he has, Andy Quinlan & Paul Reid for their time and effort and also to the other senior players for supporting me to make the best of the situation we were in.
I think that taking Tor to 8th in the table so far when we finished 10th last season is a real credit to everyone! A final thank you must go to the players, you have supported me and the club through this difficult period and done me, the club and yourselves proud, well done guys!!
So a big welcome to Andy, and a well deserved victory for his first game and long may it continue!!
I cannot question anyones effort today and thought that when we played as a unit we looked awesome, we also defended fantastically... especially in the second half. We just simply should have won by more and made hard work of it. Is that down to Christmas turkey? Maybe a bit but I also think that it is also down to the fact that we need to get better at our decision making... not as a team... but individually. Decision making about support, lines of running and when to run, something to work on with Andy I am sure :-)
A special captains mention must go to Tom Harvey for his first game for Tor, well done mate you played really well... welcome to the club! Also to Hamish Malone, who played his first game at full back and had a really good game.
After the game everyone was asked to wear wigs and those who did just looked fantastic... this is something we do sometimes to bring the team together so I was slightly disappointed that some chose not to... I am sure that next time we do something as a team that everyone will make the effort.
Last night was great fun and I must say a big thanks to Paul Reid who lead some rather interesting drinking games... the never ending jug was a personal favourite!
A big well done must also go to the 2nds and the 3rds who also won... I cannot remember the last time all 3 teams won... a fantastic effort. It would be great to see more of you at training
See you all next week,
