2019 Hockey Welcome

WELCOME to another year of sweaty hockey, turf burn, over indulgent days/nights out, hilarious stories, new best friends, sad farewells, boat party's, fabulous high end party’s, hockey international tours and many more excellent adventures that this brilliant city of Singapore offers when you join the TORNADOS HOCKEY CLUB!

We have yet again set our intentions (like every basic betch) to make 2019 our best year yet... and we are so far, 8 days into the new year, slowly crawling out of our jet lagged/ hungover state to make that happen for everyone!

OUR FIRST TRAINING IS ON THIS this Thursday at 8pm Evans Rd. (21 Evans Rd. If entering from Evans Rd head towards the swimming pool [which is signed] into the buildings and shock surprise there is a big blue turf hidden in the center of all the buildings!)

This is open to ALL prospective/ new/ current members of the Tornados Hockey Club. NO COST FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY. As the season is approaching for the Men and Women top two grades we will require all potential players to start attending training these next two weeks for selection! MORE below.

As its a new year and still early in January (jetlag) we will have the whole club train from 8-10pm so lace up your shoes and we will see how many keen beans turn up before making any further decisions on pitch needs. If you are new...... It is a great chance to come and check out the Tornados with no obligation or costs to join for the month of January.
Fees/ subs will be distributed by 20th January and deadline for payment will be due Friday the 1st February 2019. (Full season payment will remain @ SG $450, student fees (with student ID) SG $150 and uniform will need to be purchased before the start of league with details to come..

The structure for hockey in Singapore is split into different leagues; competitive, social, indoor and various intra-club tournaments all of which are covered in your annual fees;

FOR MEN: The competitive league for men is split into 5 different league levels run at different times of the year. Its called the Singapore National League (NHL) and the Tornados currently enter 4 teams. For the top two leagues NHL is set to begin late February and is expected to run into the month of June. Men’s 3rd and 4th NHL teams will run in the second half of the year from July.

The Social league for the men is seen as a ‘warm up’ to the competitive league, therefore the men’s social for our top two teams starts this weekend 12/13th January! As there is very little time to hold tryouts with the social league, we consider these games, as well as training, a ‘tryout’ for our Mens teams so if you would like to be considered in these teams, please attend training and contact Isobel Lyall on 8720 9003 or at isobel.lyall@gmail.com so we can let you know the times of games. Social hockey for Men not participating in the NHL 1/2 teams will run concurrently through March to June.

Indoor Hockey is still basically in its infancy but is a growing league in Singapore and we will release more details as they come to us during the year.

FOR WOMEN: The competitive league for women is split into 2 different league levels run at both the same time between late February to June. Its called the National Women’s League (NWL). For the top two leagues NWL is set to begin late February and is expected to run into the month of June. As there is only two leagues for women there is a large disparity between the groups. The Ladies 1’s play a competitive game with a required level of fitness. It is most suited to someone who has played hockey before and has a good base fitness, having said that we are an exceptional social group that enjoy the game but don’t take ourselves too seriously, if you have played at a higher level I would suggest this league is for you. For the second league everyone is welcome (even beginners) but we may be restricted due to excess numbers and/or safety concerns. You may only be able to participate in the social leagues later in the year at a reduced cost after some training! We won’t let you miss out and we will ensure you have a great year.

Women's social hockey runs in the second half of the year after the NWL season. It is a combination of all the Ladies and is a fantastic social run around and a great way to make some friends!

Indoor Hockey is still basically in its infancy but is a growing league in Singapore and we will release more details as they come to us during the year.

Any pressing questions regarding the above please contact our President: IZZY @ Isobel.Lyall@gmail.com OR through the FB Private messenger. There will be spare sticks/ shin pads and socks for those that haven't got their gear in SG yet (let Izzy know). We will NOT be supplying mouth guards/ gum shields, please ensure you take care of this yourself.
