There are exciting changes to the management team for the coming season.
Matt Green and Richard Haydon will be joint managers of TULFC, with last season’s manager, Jamie McInnes stepping into a coaching role.
“Last season was an amazing challenge in managing Torquay United Ladies,” said Jamie. “There were many trials and tribulations involved in what, to all intents and purposes, was a huge task in having to rebuild the entire team. To pull together and achieve survival, with a fantastic point earned away to Ilminster, was an achievement I will always look back with fond memories.
“This season has got to be about pushing on and building upon the hard work from everyone last year. Unfortunately, due to my other extensive commitments, I am unable to commit to managing the side this year. However, I am fully behind both Matt and Rich as joint managers and know they will do a great job. Rich came on board towards the end of last season and played a huge part in our survival, he is a top bloke! Matt has worked extensively with me in the Girls Football department at TUCST, as we look to create a pathway to rival the major clubs in Devon for girls, right through into the Ladies team.
“I will still be involved with the TULFC team in a coaching role, which is where I feel my strengths lie. I am incredibly passionate about developing players, both on and off the pitch, and look forward to the challenges of next season. Women’s football is in a great place right now, the future is very bright!”
Richard added: “I would like to thank Jamie for all his hard work, passion and commitment to TULFC last season. He is a great coach and a great man too. As he has mentioned, at times it was very difficult for him and I was very happy to be a part of TULFC' s survival last season under his leadership. I am also very pleased that Jamie has decided to stay involved in a coaching capacity as both Matt and I were keen to keep him on-board!
“Moving forward, I am hoping that between Matt and myself we can improve on what Jamie started last season and move the team upwards and create some good entertaining attractive football for all to enjoy.
“I would like to have a squad of 20 of which at least 16 are always committed regular players. At times last year, Jamie found it difficult to raise 11 players.
“I have been in and around football for over 40 years in that time I have been involved with senior men's football as well as managing and physio at two women’s teams. To have this chance to joint manage a team of Torquay’s stature is a proud moment for me and one I'm relishing.
“I hope we can hit the ground running, but realistically we are building for the future and with Jamie providing a pathway with his academy the future is looking brighter. I'm look forward to the season and hopefully the squad are too!”
Club chair, Janette Farrell commented: “I’d like to welcome Richard and Matt. They bring a lot of experience with them, which they will put into their new roles. I’d also thank Jamie for stepping in last season - without him I have no doubt the club would have folded through lack of players, commitment and funds. His work to date has been much appreciated, especially by me, and I’m very glad he’s not ‘walking away’.”
