The waiting is over, on Saturday another season of rugby starts with a sense of anticipation for all those involved at Towcestrians RFC.

Can they go that one step further than last season having fallen at the last hurdle in the nail biter against Chard?
This year the South West 1 East league has a different look to it with Oxford Harlequins having moved up, gone also are Marlow, Salisbury and Cheltenham, replaced by Chippenham, Trowbridge as well as local sides Leighton buzzard and Bletchley.
Towcestrians pre-season looks to have gone well with healthy turn outs making selection in all three teams a hotly contested affair. The 1st team has a familiar look although Saturday sees the first team league debut for lock Kieran Frost and the squad are re-joined by Will Dunkley and Luke Rust. Charismatic Liam Wilkinson will again lead the squad for this season joined by new Vice Captain Zack Osborne.
The opposition for this weekend’s encounter are Devizes who last season Towcester beat in consecutive meetings between the two sides including a comfortable 35 – 0 win at Greens Norton Road which guaranteed last season’s home play-off . The home side will be hoping to continue their run against their West Country counterparts, but Coach Robbie George is making sure there is no room for complacency.
Elsewhere in the club the second team travel to Wellingborough, and the third team are away at Market Harborough. These teams allowing last season’s colts to grab the first taste of senior rugby.
There will also be a rugby lunch held at the club house before the game. Tickets are £15 per person and are payable in advance.
After the match there is a party to celebrate the beginning of the new season.
