Today we had yet another cancelled fixture, I think the third week on the bounce. We finally found a game, away, to Tring RFC.

We had several of our Saints DPP players out for this fixture, so with barely enough players to field 15, it would need a good team performance. And that’s exactly what we got.

Having started slowly in several games this Season, it was great to see the lads ready for this straight from the kick-off. Tring got us under way with the kick off going straight to Deamer. A strong maul before flash call where the ball was out to Harvey who beat one tackle then offloaded to Luke who smashed the ball over the line with several Tring defenders hanging off him! Great strength from the big man to give Tows the lead. Harvey converted.

0-7 to Tows after a few minutes.

Then a decent spell from Tring who had the chance to get a try back. Tring camped out on our 5-meter line but the Tows defend well. We managed to win the scrum, our pack doing well despite almost half our regular Forwards missing. A great run from Harvey from between our own posts, ball getting to Pickles and then Owen for another Tows try. Harvey missed the kick this time from a tough spot and swirling wind. 0-12.

From the restart, Tows apply the pressure again – a great run through the middle from Taylor before a Flash ball to Jacob who chips the ball over their defence and manages to catch it again – a pass to Monk who runs a great line before passing to Deamer who scores. Harvey doesn’t miss the kick this time so it’s now 0-19 to Tows.

From the restart, we knock on for the second time. Certainly something to work on! A great spell of pressure from Tring who push us back to our line. Bailey gets a great jackal in to turnover the ball, ball to Pickles who ran most of the pitch before offloading to Owen who finished the job and secure the try. Ball is our wide, so Harvey missed the conversion, but Tows are now 0-24 up.

This could have ended up being a cricket score, but Tring dug in and really put on more pressure – the last two times our defence held out, but this time they managed to secure their own try and kick the conversion. 7-24 is the score as we go in to half-time.

The second half starts off very evenly with equal spells of pressure. Tring did have a knock-on though which Harvey picked up and the ref allowed the advantage – Harvey making his own try which he also converted. 7-31.

After this try was the first poor spell from Tows. Tring taking advantage and securing their second try and conversion. 14-31.

Our next try is a great piece of individual skill by Harvey who chips over the Tring defence to run in for the try which he also converted again. 14-38 to Tows.

The next score was for Tring – the ref pinging us time and time again. He wasn’t allowing jackals and pulled the boys for several alleged infringements. Seemed harsh but it did give Tring the chance to get over the line again but they missed the conversion. 19-38.

The final score was down to Tows from one of our line-outs. Ball out to Dicks, then to Harvey who scored his second half hattrick and conversion. Great display from all of the lads and a decent team performance to make sure Tows came home with a 19-45 win.
