Finding fixtures is tough at the moment, so we took today’s game looking at it as a week to try some new things and at least get some game time after two-weeks off. In reality, it was less of a challenge than we expected.

The ref had stated at the start that he would be playing to East Mids Rules and would call a game early if one team went 50+ points behind. We did have a few lads out still and only had 17 lads there, but this game didn’t prove to be much of a challenge.

Within minutes from the kick off we were ahead. They fumbled the catch from kick-off but managed to get a scrum after a knock-on from Tows on their 5m line. They kicked as soon as it was out of the scrum, but the kick went straight to Harvey – who was playing as Full Back for a change today – and he ran is straight back at them. He was tackled before offloading to JJ who ran it in for a simple try at the corner. The wind was blustery and so the kicks were tough and Harvey pushed the conversion.

5-0 Tows.

From the restart we piled on the pressure again. Luca caught it, ran at them before getting it out to the Backs. JJ, Harvey then Lucas who scored our second try. He could've and should've taken the ball under the posts but didn't - leaving Harvey with another tricky kick that he missed.

10-0 Tows.

Their restart went straight to Harvey who ran a great line before passing to Jacob who ran through about ten missed tackles! Great strength from Jacob who had stepped in to play 10 today. Eventually he went down but decent presentation and Connor was able to get the ball to JJ who scored his second and our third of the day. Out wide, Harv missed the kick again.

15-0 Tows.

To be 15 to nil up in less than 10 minutes was a concern. This game may not even make it to half time, so the gaffer decided to instantly pull of Harvey, JJ and Ricardo! That should help even the odds, with Pires, Adam and Harry coming on. Possibly Harry's first game for us this Season? He certainly hasn't been to many games but at least he got a run out today.

Jacob took our forth try and also got the conversion. Good running from the Forwards helped create some gaps and Jacob took his chance well.

22-0 Tows

Our fifth try came from a strong run by Pickles - they struggled to get him down, but when they did he got the ball to Connor and then Lucas for a great try. Jacob missed the next kick so the score went to 27-0 to Tows.

Alfie played today after the conflicting Seven's game for Stowe was cancelled. The big #8 went on a powerful run to make our sixth try. His offload to to Ricardo should have set up another try but he was tripped and ultimately had to pass to Jacob to take the glory. Though he did miss the kick!

32-0 Tows.

This still looked like we wouldn't even see 25 minutes out so we dropped a man now to help even up the sides.

The didn't find themselves in our half much, and it wasn't long before Newbold were pinned in again inside their 22. From their line-out, they tried to kick clear but the kick went straight to Adam. His run was good and so was the pass to JJ. He doesn't miss these opportunities and soon had his hat trick despite not being on the pitch for very long. The kick was missed, so score went to:

Now the gaffer was really having a laugh - JJ moved to play number 8! And Harvey in the Second Row?!

Despite messing with the format, the structure and the objectives, we still had one more score in us before half-time - Good run from Monk off our scrum, passed to Ricardo who scored. The conversion was made, so the score was now 44-0.

Half Time.

We now dropped to 13 players. Newbold put an extra man on, so they were now 16 players. The extra three men made it a bit more of a challenge, but not massively so. So a new rule was made for the second half by our coaches - Buffalo hasn't scored this year, so the rule was - NOBODY can score UNTIL after Buffalo had a try!

That slowed the scoring up! Buffalo had a few great chances but was ultimately tackled or he knocked-on before try was made! Eventually he did score though!! Well done Buffalo!

At 49-0 we knew the next score would end the game, so we made sure to miss the conversion!

49-0 Tows.

The game was ended a few minutes later when Josh scored our final try. It was a great run from Pickles then on to Monk, before he passed to Josh. Josh obviously hadn't got the memo though as the final try was supposed to come from Pickles! Never mind, try scored, Joe missing the kick woefully - and that was the end of the game.

54-0 Tows.

Thanks for Newbold for coming to give us a game - it was played in good spirits.
