A tough game away for the Towcester Ladies today against NC1 team today at Kenilworth. A friendly fixture with just 16 in the squad.
They’ve not lost a game, so Towcester had to bring it to the pitch. With a number of new players in the starting line up and some players out of position, 100% effort was needed.
Kenilworth counter-rucked harder than Towcester had ever come up against, so scrum half Caz Davies had to control the ball at the base of the breakdown. Josie Murray at fly half controlled the game well and was superb putting pressure on the Kenilworth attack.
Kenilworth took the lead, but Towcester fought hard. They were powerful in the scrum, but as were our pack, lead by Vicky Kilmister who played an outstanding game for 80 minutes.
With Kenilworth having an all round game, kicks were being forced to Maddie Warren at full back. Who fought hard to regain possession for Towcester. At times, Towcester’s defensive line speed let them down leading Kenilworth’s backs exploiting the space, resulting in tries being scored.
Towcester battled well and were relentless with their efforts. Resulting in 3 tries for the away team, 2 scored by Kelly Harry (converting one) who ran hard lines and evaded the defence with lightening footwork. The other by the hardworking Rebekah Nolan at 8 who once again played fantastically. Was great to see Laura Vickery back on the pitch after being out due to injury.
Dev Wesson had a blinder on the right wing, just her third game for the team. With superb tackles and some fantastic carrying. She made metres on the wing for the Towcester attack.
A hard worked 80 minutes, saw Towcester come second in a fantastic match up against Kenilworth, score 29-17.
Forward of the match - Vicky Kilmister
