Greens Norton Road was the venue for Saturday’s fixture between Towcestrians and Leighton Buzzard. Towcester were looking to make it three from three while Buzzard were hoping for a better result than their previous fixture against Old Scouts.
Tows entered the game with a mix of changes, notably prop Joel Sandham replacing Peter Gowler who picked up a nasty knee injury last time out.
The game started well for the home side, a solid breakdown and some slick hands lead to winger Cam Young touching down in the corner. Rhys Williams’ conversion fell slightly short of the posts.
The hosts quickly extended their lead with another impressive score from winger Cam Young. His chip over the opposition bounced favourably for him to go in for his second of the afternoon. 10 - 0 to Tows as they approached half time.
Before the break however, ill-discipline saw Towcester lose two players to the sin bin. Cameron Young and captain Craig Holton saw yellow while Buzzard had a player sent off for stamping.
Buzzard took advantage of their extra man just before the break to make it 10 - 7.
The second half started evenly with both sides eager to play with ball in hand. After both sin bins were served, Tows' extra man began to tell. Cam Young dotted down for his third after a dominant phase of possession.
Young then made it four after a brilliant solo effort saw him beat four defenders before crashing over in the corner. Williams converted to cap off a 22 - 7 victory.
This win and favouring results elsewhere sees Tows reach the summit of the table after week three. Next week sees a trip to bitter rivals Old Northamptonians. Towcestrians, confident after their first three wins on the trot, will be looking for revenge after their Alliance Cup agony in May.
