BBoB RFC 1st XV 7pts Vs Towcestrians RFC 1st XV 82pts
30th October 2010
Flanker Nathan Payne scored a hat trick as Towcester comfortably overcame a weakened BBOB side.
Towcester travelled to St Andrews Road on Saturday to face a BBOB team shorn of the backbone of its players.
The gulf proved too big a hurdle for the hosts, who competed bravely during the first half but could not cope with the onslaught in the second.
After 21-year-old Payne had crossed for his first, Towcester spurned several scoring opportunities until Chris George ran in try No 2 from halfway.
A yellow card for BBOB for a second deliberate knock-on sapped the hosts still further and allowed Towcester to push over a scrum.
Scrum-half Austen Wheldon was ready at hand to ground the ball as it crossed the line, a carbon copy of one of his two tries against Harborough last week.
Payne, who played rugby in New Zealand for six months last season, crossed for his second before half time and Towcester turned round 28 points up.
Two quick tries after the break from Matthew Yuill and the rampaging Payne, who started playing at Towcester at the age of three, put the game beyond doubt.
But full credit went to BBOB who came back with a converted try from Dan George after a break from replacement Ross Bowden.
Young Ronnie Speakman, son of Towcester veteran Mike, replaced Wheldon at scrum-half to make his debut and with fresh legs on the park, BBOB began to struggle.
They went down to 14 men having no front row replacement and Towcester romped home with two tries apiece of James Falvey and Dave Stocks, and a second each for George and Yuill.
Student teacher Yuill converted 11 of the 12 tries to bring his personal haul for the afternoon to 32 points.
