Towcester maintained their top of the table position with a topsy-turvy win over BBOBs at a windswept Greens Norton Road.

Playing into a gale in the first half, Tows put 36 unanswered points on the board - with four tries in the first 15 minutes.

With the fierce wind behind them in the second half, they extended their lead by just 17 points, although the half saw a hattrick for lock Craig Holton.

Tows flew out of the traps with tries for half of their back line through Martyn Harvey, Matt Yuill, James Falvey and Aaron Goodman.

The flying start heralded a rout akin the annihilation earlier in the season when Tows beat BBOBs by a margin of 75 points.

But the game became bogged down and only James Tilley’s strength on the Tows wing broke the deadlock.

He barged through two tackles to score wide out and just before half time Holton claimed his first.

Yuill landed the conversion on the stroke of the whistle to add to two earlier successful attempts.

Turning round with the wind at their backs, prop Sam Smith supported Yuill on the break-out to sail over for a rare try.

Holton added his second by outpacing the cover wide out but the visitors refused to give up.

BBOB winger Dan George chased down a kick ahead to cross in the corner for a well-earned score.

Holton completed his whirlwind hattrick as the bar and a jug beckoned, and Yuill added a further conversion.

Tows face two cup games this week at Greens Norton Road. They play ONs on Tuesday (Feb 8) in the Alliance Cup (KO 7.30pm) and on Saturday (Fed 12) meet Ludlow in the National Cup (KO 2pm).

BBOB II 10 Towcester II 12 (Merit Table)

Tows IIs sneaked a win at BBOB with tries form Brendon Kerr and Jamie King. Kerr kicked a conversion.

Towcester III 27 Kettering IV 12

Towcester IIIs put the elements to good use, ratcheting up an unassailable lead playing with the wind in the first half.

Gag Evans provided a stunning display of place kicking, landing four out of four despite the howling conditions to claim 11 of the 27 points.
