TOWS STORM BACK TO TOP OF THE TABLE

High Wycombe arrived at Greens Norton Road full of confidence after a recent run of excellent results, but came up against a determined Tows side, who proved way too strong for the visitors despite allowing them long periods of possession and ground.

Tows started well from the off, playing at a pace with the ball in hand that was noticeably quicker than the opposition, Alex Chalcraft crossing in the first minute, straight from a training ground move, Wycombe responded with a penalty but couldn’t hold back the Tows who produced a first quarter of exceptional rugby going 24 – 3 ahead, with a great finish from Chalcraft for his second and skipper Zac Osborne driving over from close range following a penalty lineout, Ben Roe then further increased the lead after a strong finish.

Tows then went into their shells and gave territory and possession to the opposition, conceding a string of penalties and Wycombe pinning Tows in their own half, Wycombe converted a penalty and then scored a seven point try to give the home side a lead of 24 – 13 at half time.

The second half started scrappily, both teams knowing the next score would be crucial, it was the Tows who crossed through Craig Holton, Tows now started to take full control and with James Falvey’s kicking from hand to peg back the visitors, Tows soon got back to their flowing best, Chalcraft’s hat-trick try was followed by a Matt Yuill effort with Falvey converting five times from seven, most of them from wide out for a final score of 45 – 13

With Salisbury losing to 3rd Placed Witney, Tows now stand 2 points clear at the top of the league having played all the teams once.

Tows 2nd XV continued to deliver impressive results and went top of their Merit League after beating Ampthill 36 – 12 and the 3rd XV returned from Corby with a narrow 10 – 12 victory at Stewarts and Lloyds, The Colts went down to Bedford 19 – 32 in a much improved performance.
