Uncharacteristic defence proves Tows undoing

Towcestrians travelled to Peterborough with a much changed side to take on a Lions side who were looking for their 1st league win of the season.

The home side were quickly into their stride, with Lions tight head prop, Ben Howard, breaking tackles to set up a try converted by Fly Half, Carrington, Towcestrians responded quickly with great hands in the backs giving Alex Chalcraft the opportunity to score, converted by Matt Yuill, to tie the game at 7 - 7, almost immediately an error from the Tows gifted the home side a score, allowing a loose ball to be fly-hacked through, Chalcraft again levelled things with his second score, smartly coming into the line to find the gap and go over. Tows have prided themselves on hard work and ball retention, however, they uncharacteristically allowed Lions turn over ball, who used it wisely for their right winger to score and after Yuill's huge touch finder just went out on the full, allowing Lions ball inside Tows 22, the home sides pressure was rewarded with another unconverted try for a 24 - 12 halftime lead.

On the resumption of the 2nd half it was Lions again who punished the Tows with a simple try from the base of the Scrum, 8 pick up through the 9's hands and onto the winger, Tows failing to defend. With both teams defence looking suspect it was Towcestrians Will Dunkley who scored next , ghosting through the defence for Yuill to convert, but a couple of Carrington penalties saw Lions out to a 37 - 19 lead, with the result now gone Tows gamely chased the try bonus point and with the last move of the match succeeded as Eugene Baxter went over, Tows now have a week off from League action and will be looking to use that time wisely on the Training field.

Tows 2nd XV gained a terrific league win against Dudley Kingswinford 52 - 5 and Tows 3rd's came back from Northampton Old Scouts 2nd XV having beaten them soundly 10 - 65
