Towcestrians again found themselves looking back on another narrow defeat in a match that was win-able, Lichfield came to Greens Norton Road to play and caused Tows some trouble, defending strongly and taking advantage of opportunities presented to them, poor defence and uncharacteristic errors cost the Tows dearly and ultimately the visitors deserved the win
The match started with Penalties exchanged in the first few minutes, James Falvey soon adding a second for the Tows to lead early on, but Lichfield hit back with the first try of the game, a line-out on the Tows 22 was naively defended, allowing a huge hole at the front of the line for the looping Lichfield forward to crash through and sprint to the line, Falvey hit back with another penalty to get Tows in front, Tows continued to try to play the phases but turned the ball over too easily and too many times, Lichfield quick to move the ball wide and stretch the defence, it was this that led to the visitors second try moving it wide out and then back into the centre, for a neat crossfield kick to the wide man to go over in the corner, again unconverted, the visitors led 9 - 13.
At this level small margins make a massive difference and again Tows turned the ball over for Lichfield to run it back, through several phases and this time through quick hands to score in the same corner. Matt Bodily's cheeky pick and drive from the base of a maul should have brought the next try but was snuffed out on the line, a penalty followed and Tows closed to 12 - 18, again generous defence saw Lichfield score another try, Tows unable to bring down the attacking man, this time it was converted and Tows were 12 - 25 behind, Peter Gowler got Tows back into the game from a line out drive and the half finished 19 - 25.
Tows second half attempts to get back in the game were undone by some simple errors, and after getting themselves in trouble on their own line conceded a penalty for Lichfield to extend the lead to 19 - 28.
Tows continued to press and play an expansive game and after a turnover, quick phases eventually saw Matt Bodily crash over from close range under the sticks, converted, and the gap was now two with 15 minutes to go, both sides looked to secure the points, solid defence from Tows saw off Lichfield but in attack they again gave away possession too easily, however, with a few minutes to go Tows were rewarded with the opportunity to sneak the victory, a penalty in front of the posts, this time Falvey could not find the target and the match ended with Tows disappointed.
Elsewhere around the club, Tows 3rd XV now top their league having seen off Kettering 2nd XV 28 - 22, The Colts went down 17 - 10 away at Market Harborough
