Tows suffer Christmas hangover

It was a performance to forget for the Tows as they travelled away to Birmingham & Solihull, or the Bees as they are known locally, a side they had beaten at home earlier in the season and undoubtedly a match the coaches would have expected to be a closer contest, Towcestrians No.8, Craig Holton, winning his 100th cap for the First XV

Tows started brightly enough gathering the kick off and retaining possession, but Bees defence was resolute and Tows failed to gain any ground eventually kicking the ball away, the large crowd giving the home side plenty of encouragement, Tows nearly went behind after dropping the ball on the 10 metre line and Bees quickly kicking through only to be thwarted over the line, Bees did get their rewards though, Towcestrians clearly under pressure in the scrum, Bees won a penalty, kicked for the corner and then drove over from close range for the opening try, Tows went further behind when missed tackles gave Bees front foot ball and the string running blindside, Sawyer, broke through to go under the posts, Tows will to forget the first half, which consisted of errors and easy turnovers, the home side gaining ground every time they had the ball, the third try came when quick hands released the Bees winger, converted from the touch by Scrum Half, Jolly, who added to the tally with a penalty and leave Tows 24 - 0 behind and outgunned in most departments.

Tows started the second half with a renewed determination, moving the ball wider from the breakdown to find space, although having possession for long periods it took time and patience from Tows to score, eventually Matt Bodily going over for Tows, converted by Ben Roe, to reduce the deficit, it took Bees 20 minutes to break into Tows half but when they did clinical finishing gave them two more scores, to see the game out and a comfortable win.

This loss sees Tows slip 3 places in the League table and after the game Coach Robbie George was left looking for positives in an error strewn game, "They were a strong outfit and worked us hard when we had the ball, forcing errors, we showed in the second half what we can do, but against good sides we have to do it for longer periods of the game"

Elsewhere around the Club, Tows 2nd XV easily dispatched Birmingham & Solihull 2nd XV 41-12 in the league and 3rds returned from Peterborough having beaten their second team 7 - 12 in the league play offs, The Colts beat Daventry away 7 - 29

Next week Tows host Old Halesonians in front of what will be an enthusiastic Vice Presidents day crowd, kick off is 2.15pm
