Tows travelled to Guildford in this London and SE Premier league encounter, looking to build on some solid recent halves of rugby, with the ambition to maintain a level of performance for the full 80 minutes.
It was Tows who went behind early on though, a converted try from the home team putting them 7 - 0 up, Tows struck back straight from the kick off, centre Wes McGimpsey scoring wide out, Tows recent scrummage woes continued into the half with the home side gaining a strong advantage and a turnover at the scrum saw Guildford score their second converted try, the see-saw scoring continued as Tows no.8 Jamie Warr collected his first try of the day, snaffling up a loose pass as Guildford attacked to run in under the posts from half way, Ben Roe converting to narrow the gap once more, a line out drive put the Surrey team further ahead, but Jamie Warr again levelling with his second try and another Roe conversion, 19 - 19, Guildford finished the half with another line out drive to score after some stout Tows defence.
The second half saw the well drilled Guildford pack, coached by Harlequins players Dave Ward and Kyle Sinckler, extend the lead further with two similar catch and drive tries from line outs, the first conversion bouncing back off the post, to seemingly make the game safe at 38 - 19, Tows had to dig deep and found a second wind, lifted by some brilliant defensive efforts from Will Dunkley, young no.7 Tom Threlfall and replacement hooker Harry Knibbs.
Tows went on the attack to seek something from the game and a deliberate knock down in midfield was rewarded with a penalty try and bonus point for Tows and a red card for Guildfords ex-Tows player Luke Rust, Tows continued to attack against 14 men and a sustained period of Tows pressure led to Jamie Warr claiming his hat-trick try to get to within seven points, Guildford were awarded a penalty in front of the posts to guarantee the win but chose to kick to the corner and lost possession, this allowed Tows to bring the ball downfield and lay siege to the home teams line, with minutes ticking away scum half Ronnie Speakman spotted a gap to run in and score wide out, with the pressure now on Tows kicker Ben Roe, he stepped up and coolly slotted the conversion home for a valuable and extremely well earned draw.
