Towcestrians slipped to a narrow defeat against top 3 side Tring in this hard fought league encounter, the visitors had been flying high in the top 3 all season and looked to dispatch a Tows side that had failed to hold them when the two sides met earlier in the season, but this was a different Tows outfit, strengthened by the returning Nicky Blackham, and now just starting to find their feet in this highly competitive league.
It was the visitors who went ahead early on in biting wind and rain, Tring kicking an early penalty through Jake Culley, and Tows then slipped further behind after failing to stop a 5 metre line out, Trings 2nd row Harry Green going over, converted by Culley, Ben Roe got the Tows on the board after some solid pressure brought a kickable penalty, which Roe dispatched, Tows went down to 14 men after Ronnie Speakman was yellow carded for retaliating after a scuffle on the floor, but Tows held firm and for the first time this season the Tows scrum started to gain parity, to the extent of defending a 5 metre scrum when short of lock Chris Kirby through another yellow card, prolonged pressure from Tring was eventually rewarded when their right wing went over and ran close to the posts for a converted try, to finish the half 3 - 17 ahead.
To Tows credit they battled back throughout the second half and had the better of the exchanges, just unable to find the finishing move, Alex Chalcrafts 50 metre break being a highlight, Tows only having two more Ben Roe penalties to show for their efforts, the game ending when fullback Matt Yuill was called back after a forward pass when clean through for a final reward, a highly contested match well referee'd by the young official.
Tows Ladies were gifted their cup game against Lincoln and with both the 2nd and 3rd team games called off due to unplayable surfaces it was left to the Colts to collect a league win at Olney.
