Tows difficult season continued with a defeat to a team only a few places above them in the table, Dorking travelled to Greens Norton Road on the back of four defeats but with three of those close defeats against top 3 opposition there league position probably did not reflect their ability.
The packed Vice Presidents Day crowd knew that Tows were in for a battle with Tows having used their 56th different player of the season last week as injury and absences continued to blight the side.
Tows started brightly and repelled some early attacks from Dorking including holding out two 5metre scrums, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 10 minutes, in wet and muddy conditions, taking a quick tap penalty on half way, finding a gap in the Tows defence and a clear run in to the corner, unconverted to go 0 - 5 ahead, Tows then compounded that error by gifting another try to Dorking, Alex Chalcraft gathering a kick ahead from Dorking ran back and attempted to chip over the oncoming kick chasers only to weakly chip it into the Dorking wingers hands who had a clear run in back from half way, again unconverted to extend the lead to 0 - 10
Tows responded well and after strong pressure in the Dorking 22, scrum half Ronnie Speakman dived over for a try, converted by Matt Yuill, a penalty shortly after by Yuill brought the scores level at half-time 10 - 10
the Dorking pack held the upper hand in the second half as Tows tired, driving a line out over for a score and then going over again towards the end of the match with a scrum pushover, both converted, Tows will feel disappointed to have been well in the game but unable to convert a couple of thier own opportunities but it was as always a committed and dogged display from Tows who can now look forward to a rest in the league as they face Northampton Old Scouts in the Alliance Cup on Saturday, 2:15pm Kick off
A depleted Tows 2nd XV went down away from home to Derby 27 - 0
