Towcestrians travelled to Pie Country this Saturday to face Melton Mowbray, in this first away League match of the season, looking to build on their opening day win.
Tows early pressure soon paid dividends as full-back Matt Yuill scored wide out for an early lead, the try going unconverted, Melton hit back soon afterwards with a penalty to open their account from fly-half Harvey Green, and then from the Tows kick off, Melton returned the ball back into the grateful arms of no.8 Craig Holton, who quickly made ground upfield and fed the supporting Yuill to go over for his second try.
With Tows now dominant a line out drive saw skipper Zac Osborne driven over for his first try of the season, Ben Roe converting from the touch to take Tows out to a 3 - 17 lead and then a quickly taken penalty by Gus Hopewell gave Tows the four try bonus point, Roe again adding the extras, before Melton got their only try of the game, their Prop bundling over for a converted try to bring the half to an end at 10 - 24.
The second half belonged to the home side, who applied huge pressure, especially at scrum time, leaving Tows little ball to play with, but with Melton fly-half choosing to play the kicking game and outstanding defence from Tows led by Holton and Tom Threlfall the home side were limited to just a solitary penalty, Tows did put together one real attack resulting in the Hat-trick try for Yuill.
After the game Tows head coach, Chris Parr, shared his thoughts "it was really pleasing to get the 5 points, especially on the road, that will help to build confidence, we still have work to do, especially in the second half of games and the players recognised that today and are keen to improve" The coach was also keen to recognise some new faces to the 1st XV "Fantastic for Michael Fagan to make his first start for the 1's and also to Lewis Bodily and Ryan Blackwell on their first selections, it's great to see players forcing their way through from the 2's"
Next week Tows face old rivals Northampton Old Scouts in one of two FRIDAY NIGHT matches at Greens Norton Road, 7:30pm Kick Off
Elsewhere around the club it was a clean sweep for all teams, Tows 2nd XV winning away at ON's 2's 10 - 36, while at home Tows 3rd XV saw off Old Scouts 2's 29 - 7 and Tows Colts also got in on the action with a 43 - 17 win away at Scouts
