Match Report: Paviors RFC 29 - 14 Towcestrians
Tows rue missed opportunity against League leaders
Towcestrians travelled to league leaders Paviors in Nottingham, this past Saturday with huge confidence after six consecutive bonus point wins and playing their best rugby of the season, but failed to take advantage of the opportunity with a disappointing performance.
Tows started slowly after the long journey against a strong Paviors outfit and were punished by two quick tries, then as they established a foothold in the game failed to convert their own opportunities with handling errors, eventually Craig Holton going over for Tows, James Falvey adding the extras to bring the score to 12 - 7, Paviors kicking a penalty on half-time to extend the lead to 15 -7.
An early second half converted try from the hosts slick backs gave them breathing space but with Tows in the driving seat at scrum time they mounted a sustained assault on the Paviors line, but to their credit the home side kept Tows out and then after Tows winger Sam Aitchison was sin binned Paviors secured the win, turning over Tows possession from a man and ball tackle to collect and run in under the posts, Tows continued right to the end though, James Falvey converting his own try, Tows coming up short of a losing bonus point to leave a disappointed dressing room.
After the game Tows Captain, Zac Osborne, commented "really frustrating to perform like that after such good run of results, we were flat in our preparation and that showed on the pitch early on, we were second best in a lot of areas today, and against a clinical side in Paviors we were punished, we're all looking forward to putting it right at home next week"
Tows take on Peterborough on Saturday in front of what will surely be an enthusiastic Vice Presidents day crowd.
