Towcestrians fell to their fifth league defeat in a row to slip to mid table in Midlands One, after Wellingboro secured the double at Greens Norton Rd on friday night under the lights.
It was Boro who started the brighter going in to an eight point lead with a try from right wing, Darrell Raynard and a penalty from Pete Vickers, Tows got into the game with long periods of pressure, twice going over the line only to be called back for infringements, and with the Boro defence holding firm all Tows had to show for their efforts was a James Falvey penalty just before half time.
The second half saw Tows under pressure at scrum time, and a string of penalties broke Tows efforts to gain any kind of momentum or play their usual expansive game, but finally a breakout saw scrum-half Ben Barwell finish strongly in the corner to level the scores at 8 - 8. Tows sought to gain the upper hand but poor handling and errors eventually led to the visitors pouncing on an interception to score, much to the delight of the away supporters, and a further scrum penalty from Vickers looked to have denied Tows even a losing bonus point until Adam Wilkinson crashed over at the end for Tows to get something from a disappointing day.
