Tows went behind early on after a penalty that was smashed from half way by Lions fly half Jaco Stoenburg. Tows weak tackling was then capitalized upon as the Lions were allowed to score a converted try.
Tows then got back into the game with a Martyn Harvey try which it was hoped would be the start of a push forward.
Celebrations were short lived as directly from the restart Tows concede their second converted try, from a blind side break.
Tows then surged back up the pitch their efforts rewarded with a five metre scrum. Their lighter pack drove the Lions towards their line but with a an attacking penalty beckoning referee Nicola Renolds awarded lions a penalty allowing a breakout from their wrecked scrum, working the ball along the length of the field to score an excellent try and leaving Tows with a 22-5 deficit to think about during the break.
Gaining belief Tows took the game to the hosts, a break from fly half Chrissie George finding replacement centre Ben Roe on his shoulder, and with his fellow centre David Williams running in two quick tries to finish off the packs hard graft Tows were right back into the game at 22-20.
Tows then had a chance to put themselves into a well-deserved lead with a penalty to be attempted by Matt Yuill, however his off day with the boot continued narrowly missing as had his previous 4 kicks.
Tows went back on the offensive as they searched for a winning try which they so rightfully deserved, only to be devastated by an interception from Lions winger J.C. Sagoe who ran into the corner, to douse Tows’ fire.
Stoenburg then missed the conversion and a late penalty to give Tows 2 well deserved bonus points for a spirited fight back against a relieved Lions side. Hugo Austin.
