The drenched conditions slowed a mobile Tows side hampering efforts to move the ball for the first quarter of the game. Finally, after the forwards had consistently battered the Loughborough line the ball was shifted left resulting in a score out wide for full back Yuill. This was shortly followed by Right Wing Goodman joining the line scoring under the posts as Tows began to control the game.
Strong running from a line out led to George Symonds surging down the blind side and successfully to the line. This was followed by Tows’ bonus try coming from a Marc Yeates break finding scrum half Dave Stocks in support. Nicky Blackham scored Tows’ fifth just before half time taking the away team into the break with a 0-29 lead.
Early in the second half, eventual man of the match Symonds scored his second try. To their credit Loughborough were determined to stem a potential rout and came back strongly scoring a try of their own. There followed a ring of replacement changes which disrupted the Tows momentum but a final try came from Second Row Sam Sturley to top a commanding performance.
